This is the third instalment in Marvel's Spider-Man series, following on from Marvel's Spider-Man (2018) and the sequel Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales (2020). In this instalment, Peter Parker and Miles Morales grapple with the next steps in their personal lives, while battling several new threats, including a private militia led by Kraven the Hunter that is turning New York City into a hunting ground for those with superpowers; and the extraterrestrial symbiote Venom, who bonds with and negatively affects Parker, threatening to destroy his personal relationships.
The gameplay builds on the foundations established by its predecessors, with an emphasis on the diverse play styles offered by Peter Parker and Miles Morales as Spider-Man. The game expands on their existing traversing and fighting abilities, including new gadgets and web-based suits that can be unlocked by progressing through the storyline. It also introduces the former Spider-Man's symbiote costume, which provides Parker with unique abilities compared to his previous playable appearance.
