Yes, that’s really Excel. It is built using standard Excel features, no fancy plug-ins or custom coding. And you probably already have 90+% of the skills to do it.
A few years ago I started playing around with design functionality that people tend to overlook in the most popular spreadsheet tools: Excel & Google Sheets.
People tend to be trained to use spreadsheets in a way that only focuses on the grid layout. But Excel has almost all the same design tools as a tool like PowerPoint. We have the option to use shapes, layers, custom text and even images… for some reason we just don’t do it.
If you just take the time to get creative and think through your design (just like you would when you build a PPT slide) you can make reports that are far more visually engaging and more insightful. People’s first reaction is typically “Wow is that really Excel? I could never do that, I’m not advanced enough.”
But the funny thing is that this is much easier than you would expect. You probably already know how to use 90% of the features. You just need to try using them in a new way.
