I hiked 7 miles to explore abandoned chromium mines along the banks of Folsom Lake. I was able to utilize the Old Salmon Falls Bridge which is usually submerged beneath the lake. The bridge was built to service the Gold Rush town of Salmon Falls. Pilot Hill is the name of the general peninsula, but the hill actually containing the mines is called Flagstaff Hill. The mines were supposedly operational no later than WWI, a part of the Salmon Falls Mining District. Not much came of the exploration, as I only found a small adit, some collapses, and multiple prospecting pits. However, I will be back to scout more workings on Flagstaff Hill.
