Well 4 years after I beat my first demon in this game I have finally beaten my first extreme. It feels unreal but is a huge weight I've been carrying for a while off my shoulders since I can now focus on irl stuff and creating more. Overall my experience with the level was great which I'll get to next.
The predrop is a lot more timing based than the rest of the level, with the first chokepoint being the 3% timing, but it becomes consistent after a few minutes and is never usually an issue. Then until about 16% the level is basically free, until you have to late time the first click in the blue orb corridor. The only other annoying click is the 25% green orb which can be frustrating to die to.
The first few clicks in the drop are difficult but are really satisfying to pull off, even the mini wave, which is sometimes hard if you can't click for the correct amount of time fast enough. The ufo transition at 33% used to give me issues but this can be easily fixed by just buffering the orb. Then at 39% there is a slightly annoying timing followed by two green orbs you must click very late before buffering the dash orb, which are probably the hardest clicks in this part. After that the ship is decently easy, since if you release a bit early you have a short amount of time to make an adjustment. If you held for too long, you can't save it though.
When you get to the dual the cube part is free, but the difficulty increases with the spider, and for some reason, it's a little off sync, requiring you to click slightly slower than the notes in the song. This did kill me many times but practicing it a lot should make it consistent. The wave starts tough but gets consistent. 52 - 55% can be hard since the timings are a bit tighter, but then you have to do 56 - 57%, where you have to buffer the green orb and then time the yellow orb. This is the only part that never got consistent for me and was a huge problem. The 57% wave is similar enough to 51% that it is easy. The robot timings are a bit tough and test your nerves after passing the part.
From 59% to 69% the difficulty goes down significantly, until the 70 - 72% wave, which requires a lot of practice and nerve control to get consistent at (especially the part with the gravity portal) The 75% timing is super late and throws you off since you have to buffer the next two orbs, then do another late timing on the blue orb. The rest of the part is fairly easy.
84 - 90% is in my opinion the hardest part of the level (even though I somehow fluked it) because of the purple orb timing, green orb sometimes not registering, and the two consecutive green dash orb timings. you are rewarded though since 91 - 95% is literally free once you learn it so you can mentally prepare for the end.
The yellow orb at 96 plays a big role in determining is you will survive, since you cannot buffer it but are punished by clicking it late as you will be lower when you hit the dash orb. If you can hit it early without dying though, you just have to control your nerves and release at the right time on the dash orb. This will be easy if you did the yellow orb correctly, and you can hold on the blue orb and buffer the green orb, which will carry you over the triple spike. I'm glad I didn't die at 98% or there would have been a PROBLEM
Overall, the gameplay is fantastic and gets consistent really fast, so I would 100% recommend this for anyone looking to start playing extremes over other options like cataclysm.
