In this video, I make another chess piece for our 2020 chess set challenge.
The Venus of Willendorf is a prehistoric limestone sculpture found in Austria about a century ago.
It is estimated to have been carved 25000 to 30000 years ago making it one of the oldest pieces of sculpture ever found. Probably a fertility deity of some sort, it has exaggerated female features associated with reproduction. Forging this shape proved to be more challenging than expected. The nature of the shape did not lend itself well to the forging process. In some cases, I needed to actually chip pieces off in a chasing technique...so I was essentially carving as opposed to forging
