The objectives of this project are to shed light on the most salient challenges facing human civilization, explore the role of economics and the inner workings of capitalism, and heighten people’s awareness of both the economic system in which they live and work, and the role of economics in understanding this ever-changing system.
About Jeffrey Sachs
Jeffrey Sachs is an American economist, academic, and public policy analyst known for his work on sustainable development, poverty alleviation, and economic development. Born on November 5, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan, Sachs earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard University, where he later served as a professor. He gained early recognition for advising countries in economic transition, including Bolivia and Poland, on market reforms and stabilization policies.
Sachs later became a leading advocate for addressing global poverty, especially in Africa, through sustainable development initiatives. He served as the director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University from 2002 to 2016 and is currently a professor at Columbia, where he also leads the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network. As an author, Sachs has written several influential books, including The End of Poverty (2005) and Common Wealth (2008), focusing on global economic issues and climate change. Throughout his career, Sachs has advised organizations like the United Nations, playing a significant role in the Millennium Development Goals and the Sustainable Development Goals.
