Be Careful About This Kind of Arrogance in Chess
Be careful about this kind of arrogance in chess: assuming everything is easily winning. In completely winning positions, it is easy to assume that the opponent has no chance to save the game, but you must watch out for your opponent's resources. In the first example, 1. Kf5 h5! 2. h3! hxg4 3. hxg4 Ke7 4. Kxg5 Kf7 5. Kh6 wins: 5. ...Kg8 6. g5 Kh8 7. g6 Kg8 8. g7 Kf7 9. Kh7 and White queens. Note how if White is left with only h-pawns, it is a theoretical draw as Black's king just hides on h8, so a g-pawn must be maintained.
In the second example, White also has to keep a g-pawn, so 1. g4! is the only winning move, winning after 1. ...h2 2. Kg2 Kc7 3. Kxh2 Kd7 4. Kg3 Ke7 5. Kh4 Kf7 6. Kh5 Kg7 7. Kg5! with White having the opposition, leading to the exact same position as in the first example by 7. ...Kf7 8. Kh6 +-. Always watch out for the opponent's idea, even in endgames.
