USS Duke alien encounter
Final project by student Harry Wang for Duke University Bio089S (Genetics, Evolution, Star Trek) class
This course focuses on teaching genetics and evolutionary concepts by analyzing depictions from Star Trek. The final project was to film a ~5-minute scene from a Star Trek episode with "good science" but that's also entertaining. Here's the first one I received. It features lots of concepts we covered-- natural selection, genetic drift, inbreeding, some astrobiology, etc. The actor did err when he said "zero gravity" on Mars-- it does have some (lower than Earth) gravity-- but this was great overall! And I love the cinematography, especially of the chase/ fight scene at the end. BTW, the student who created this (Harry Wang) is not one of the actors. (Fun fight/ chase scene begins timepoint 5:25)
