Clogs in sewer pipes aren't limited to toilets. They often appear in pipes leading from sinks and kitchen sinks. In some cases, you can fix the problem yourself. If the problem is more serious, you'll need to call a plumber.
If you don't have a food waste disposer, your food waste should go directly into the trash can. Don't throw it in the sink, washbasin, toilet, or anywhere else. Food particles get caught in the "elbow" (the curved part of the pipe under the sink), settle to the bottom, and form a clog. To remove it, often just disconnecting the pipe and washing out the solid deposits is enough. Alternatively, you can pour a drain cleaner containing chemicals, bacteria, and enzymes down the drain. This softens the debris, which is then flushed down the drain. It's best to avoid food from going down the drain. Place a strainer over the drain when washing dishes.
