Paralyzed Squirrel 9 July 2011.AVI
This squirrel upon receipt had almost complete paralysis of the hind legs and tail. A suspicious and uncommon form of coccidia (of the genus Eimeria) was discovered in fecal tests. Once treated, the squirrel began to recover. The suspicion is that the coccidia emitted a neurotoxin that caused or contributed to the paralysis.
