LVM3-M4: Designed to propel the integrated module into space, carrying the lander and rover to their lunar destination, it is the most powerful launch vehicle designed, developed and launched into space by ISRO. It is designed not only for the Chandrayaan, but also other space missions both Local and international.
Propulsion Module: The propulsion module was responsible for transferring the lander module from its initial Earth orbit to a lunar orbit. This was done in several orbit raising manoeuvres which eventually transferred the module into a Lunar orbit. The orbit reduction manoeuvres were done to finally separate the lander module for soft landing near the south pole region of the Moon. The propulsion module also carried the Spectro-polarimetry of HAbitable Earth payload which studied the Earth.
Vikram Lander: Named after Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, the father of the Indian space program, the Vikram lander was engineered to make a soft landing on the lunar surface. It carried several payloads including Chandra’s Surface Thermophysical Experiment (ChaSTE) to measure the thermal conductivity and temperature; Instrument for Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) for measuring the seismicity around the landing site; Langmuir Probe (LP) to estimate the plasma density and its variations.
Pragyan Rover: Pragyan, meaning 'wisdom' in Sanskrit, is a six-wheeled robotic rover tasked with exploring the lunar terrain, conducting scientific experiments, and sending data back to Earth. It carried two payloads including Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) for deriving the elemental composition in the vicinity of landing site.
