Tip #1 PATIENCE
Alright guys, starting off with Beginner Tip 1, PATIENCE. It’s important to understand that Insurgency Sandstorm is NOT Call of Duty or Battlefield. This is a VERY slow paced shooter that’s going to challenge your positioning, reaction time and decision making skills. TTK is insanely fast and in most situations, you are only one shot away from death.
If your used to fast paced shooters like Call of Duty, try to remind yourself to slow down while your playing. You don’t need to be running all over the map, sliding through doors or pushing teams alone because you’ll most likely be putting yourself at risk. Most of my high kill games so far were because of people carelessly sprinting through buildings that i was already in. In those situations, all I really needed to do was just wait for the enemy player to enter the building or come around the corner and they were dead. The reason I was so successful in these situations is because I wasn’t forcing the fight. I was waiting for my opponents to make a mistake and I capitalized on it.
Also, footsteps are VERY loud in Insurgency Sandstorm which brings me to the next beginner tip...
Tip #2 MIND YOUR STEP
If you’re used to playing competitive shooters then you’ll understand why this tip is so important. Good audio is crucial for success in this game. A lot of people in this game will give away their positions because they’re sprinting and trust me you don’t wanna be that guy. The only time I would encourage you to sprint is when your trying to avoid enemy fire or if you’re pushing objectives with your team.
Let your opponents make the mistake first!
Tip #3 PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR AMMUNITION
Insurgency Sandstorm tries it’s best to focus on realism which means, each magazine you have holds a separate amount of bullets. When reloading, each ammo container is saved for later. magazines will NOT combine themselves together.
You can also speed reload by double tapping square on playsation or X on Xbox which will reload your weapon faster but will sacrifice that magazines remaining bullets.
TIP #4 LANDING YOUR SHOTS
If you’re trying to shoot somebody while you’re moving, your bullets are going to be all over the place and very difficult to control. Your strongest position when firing your weapon is standing still or while you’re crouched. This is going to give you the most control over your weapon in close to medium range fights.
If you’re trying to kill an enemy from range, especially with an assault rifle, try to switch your firing mode to semi-automatic by pressing Up on the directional pad. This will give you more control over your weapon at range so you can make every single bullet count. remember guys, it only takes one clean headshot to kill someone!
TIP #5 COMMUNICATION
The last and final tip I’m going to leave you guys with is to communicate with your team. A lot of people may not realize this right away but in order to actual speak to your team in game chat, you need to hold L1 on Playstation or LB on XBOX. Chat in this game is push to talk.
It’s also important to know when you push to talk you’re not just sharing your voice with your team. Any enemy players within proximity can hear you so keep those callouts short and strategic.
Effective communication with your teammates could be the difference between winning and losing a match. This game encourages chat and is one of the many reasons why it’s a great PVP shooter.
