Bill’s legacy is the understanding that sedimentation and tectonics are interwoven
Bill was a professor emeritus of geoscience at the University of Arizona and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. He was awarded the Penrose Medal in 1991, the Laurence L. Sloss Award for Sedimentary Geology in 1999 and the Rip Rapp Archaeological Geology Award in 2014. In fact, Bill is renowned for his work in plate tectonics, sedimentary geology and geoarcheology.
