A poem written and performed by TheRavenOfPoe
on the 3rd May 2009.

Would you still love a rose
If it lived forever?
Or do you suppose
That if it never, ever
Faded into fallen petals
And crumpled stem
Of limp and lifeless brown -
Lying on that earthen ground;
You would regard this
Poor, immortal flower
With that solemn, still power
Of a stone that sits alone
Long unchanging and unmoving
Casting shadow long and short
As the earth's bright pendulum
Tracks and swings across the sky
Unaware of the world it warms
Far far far away.

I think it is the briefness
Of the beauty of a rose
That renders it so fair
And by example I'm aware
That the beauty of humanity
Is like that of the rose.
It is by our wilting,
Our growing and our changing
That we are made more fair.
So it is that the point of life
Is given, paradoxically,
By that thing of dread:
Our mortal doom,
That thing, that looming
...Death.
