Ethical Game: Analyse of a Freemium - Hooked Inc. How these games get you to spend actual money.
Freemiums... They are everywhere on our mobiles. And most of them are not so much a game anymore, more a giant shop around a very simple game. The game by itself would often be finished quite quickly without many mechanisms to hinder the players and have them spend to progress, on top of watching many many ads.
I analyse here a relatively honest, if greedy, freemium. Without all these ads and IAPs, it would actually be a nice, relaxing game, which is more than can be said about many other games. And IMO, the whole "shops" around diminish the quality of the game by a great amount.
Notice that Hooked Inc only have one kind of lootbox, and you don't have to pay anything to play it, only to watch an ad. You also get some free plays with a daily bonus. So once again is far from the worse freemium out there.
Many other games do not even have the nice game below, just several currencies to hide you how much you actually need to progress, and tricks to keep you playing.
