South African National Youth Day celebrates the Soweto Uprising on June 16th, 1976. 20 000 school-goers protested against the oppressive Apartheid Bantu Education Act, which forced Non-English and Non-Afrikaans learners to fit into the newly evolving Apartheid System.
The protest ended in a blood bath, as the armed police force killed hundreds of protestors and injured thousands.
In this video I want to share the origin and history of Youth Day, which is celebrated on 16 June every year. We remember those who fought with such courage for justice and freedom.
