Key to My Heart •Chapter 2• A Justlena Love Story
Taylor and I both plopped down on our seats in English, breathing heavily just as the bell rang. We earned a glare from the teacher from making such a 'commotion' as she would call it.
"Okay class. It looks like everyone has arrived," she said in her annoying British accent while looking at me and Taylor. So far, let's just say we weren't exactly part of her favourite students. "Let's do attendance to double check. Shall we?" she asked to nobody in particular. "Okay," she said before putting on her round reading glasses and read down the attendance list.
"Salina?" she asked.
"Here," I sighed, raising my hand annoyed.
Yup, 'Salina,' that's what she calls me. Awesome name right?
"Okay class. Settle down please," she said. "So, today we will be starting a new writing assignment. It will be on essay writing!" she said excitedly.
That's something you don't want to hear. When Ms. Coulter's excited, her voice cracks. Not the best sound, it's worse than the noise and feeling of scratching your nails on a blackboard.
"So, your topic is of your choice. It will be due a week from today," she said before passing sheets of paper back.
In total, there were five pages. One was the outline, there was a rubric, a success criteria and a two page example of an essay. Well isn't this going to be fun?
"Okay, so as you can see, there are five sheets of paper. One specifically titled; Essay Outline. Here is where I expect you ALL to fill it in descriptively with the required information. Next, you have the sheet titled; Success Criteria. The first thing that I expect is an interesting introduction that grabs the readers' attention," she said. Her voice soon started trailing off as I started my daily daydreaming routine during English.
"Salina! May you please read the third point on the Success Criteria?" she asked, tearing me away from my LaLaLand.
"Yes. Make sure that you are using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation," I read, pushing up my glasses slightly.
"Thank you dear," she smiled.
Please don't ever smile again, I begged. It's just plain creepy.
Once she moved on, I continued daydreaming. Every time she picks on someone, she doesn't care about them anymore for the rest if class. That's probably the only good thing about her, unless you are called at the end. That's different.
Finally, after English, the day seemed to go by quickly. Before I knew it, it was lunch time.
"Are we meeting everybody up at McD's?" I asked Taylor.
"Yup, hurry up! I'm starving," she whined.
"No Taylor, you aren't starving. If you were, you probably won't be standing here whining at me," I giggled.
"Whatever nerd," she said, playfully rolling her eyes.
"You did not just call me that," I fake gasped.
"Oh yes I did. Hurry up," she ushered me.
"Okay, I get it. I'm ready," I said, grabbing my wallet from my bag and walking down the hallway with Taylor.
By now, everyone was either already in the cafeteria or somewhere out for lunch. The hallways were full of silence except for Taylor's and my footsteps.
I pushed open the front doors and stepped outside.
Why hello world, I thought as the wind hit me, sending my hair blowing all over the place. Taylor and I walked across the street to where the closest McDonald's was. We went in, ringing the chimes above the door. The smell of fast food hit my nose, causing my mouth to water.
"Over here!" Nina said, waving her hands in the air.
Taylor and I made our way over to the seats they were sitting at.
"What took you guys so long?" Zayn asked.
"Selena was taking forever," Taylor whined. "Now I'm starving.
"Seems like her," Justin chuckled.
I sent him a glare. You see, Justin and I aren't exactly the best when you put us two together. Let's just say we don't show the same respect we do to each other than to the rest of our group.
"Okay, why don't you just go get your food?" Nina suggested.
"Yea, let's go Taylor," I said, pulling her to the long line.
After a while, Taylor and I finally got our food. We went back to the table and Taylor took a seat beside Nina, leaving the only empty seat next to Justin for me. Well isn't this great? Note the sarcasm? You better. I moved into the seat next to Justin and plopped down. His familiar cologne filled my nose. It took me everything to not gag out loud. Gosh he puts a lot on.
Wish me luck? Hopefully I can survive lunch.
