If it's Thursday, it's #TBT day on @AMilPorHoraComRodrigoMattar - today with a relevant fantasy from the present day, but harking back to the past and a track that should leave good memories and nostalgia.
An unusual track, founded more than seven decades ago and whose future is practically defined: extinction.
This is the Autodromo di Enna-Pergusa, in Sicily. The track, conceived around the only natural lake in that commune on the Italian island, is 4.95 km long and its original layout was practically an oval, later interspersed with dangerous chicanes.
Fast, the track was highly abrasive and extremely dirty, causing numerous accidents and skids. With the chicanes, the "traps" increased and, not infrequently, the races at Enna-Pergusa - especially single-seaters - were a demolition derby.
The track hosted unofficial F1, F2, and F3000 races, as well as World SBK (believe it or not!), FIA GT, ETCC, 24 Hours Series, and local races – the last category to race there this year was TCR Italy.
In July, decisions began regarding the future of the sports facility, and about two months ago, the Enna Authority informed the Automobile Club di Italia (ACI) that it is unable to keep the track active. The land is under extrajudicial liquidation, and the Autodrome may be closed by the end of 2024.
