Episode 6: Opening the Vault
Some biochemistry procedures seem like magic. SDS-PAGE, for example, sounds a lot like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious...but it’s not from Mary Poppins! I’ll show you how we analyzed the various vault components using this technique. Then, I’ll explain how a collaboration with a phenomenal cell biologist, John Heuser, showed that a vault particle could open into two flower-like structures, suggesting a barrel-like model. So, let’s roll out the barrel—we’ll have a barrel of fun!
