Chemistry: Introduction to the Periodic Table
The periodic table is the most powerful tool chemists have for organizing information. Without it, chemistry would be a chaotic and confusing mix of seemingly random observations. What makes the periodic table truly invaluable is that it can be used as a predictive tool. You can guess a lot about an element's chemical behavior if you know where it is located on the periodic table.
We credit Dmitri Mendeleev with the first Periodic Table. He organized the elements in his table based on atomic mass. Henry Moseley modified it, ordering the elements according to atomic number. This is the periodic table we use today.
