Sand Crab Watchers
On a recent trip to the island of Oahu, I woke early one morning and noticed the first indications of a beautiful sunrise coming. I dressed quickly and ran for the beach. I found a suitable spot and sat down to watch the sun come up. I was not disappointed. The color, the clouds, the light was breathtaking. I sat—I watched—and I prayed thanks for the privilege.
After the sun had come up and it was mostly light, something caught my attention, and I looked down. I had to look closely, but there it was—a tiny whitish colored sand crab about two feet away. He had come up on top of the sand and was staring at me. Then I noticed another one also to my left— then, another one in front of me to the right—and off to my right side—and finally behind me. They were all around me—very close and staring up at me. They made not a sound—just sat staring intently with their little dark eyes. It was the sweetest thing—these tiny shy little creatures were keeping watch over me. I was oblivious to their presence but they were fully conscious of me. I was a guest in their domain.
As I thought about it, I remembered the Savior teaching that He and the Holy Angels keep watch over us. We do not see them—sometimes we are oblivious to their influence and presence—but they are there and in that we can be assured and take comfort.
