Should public figures be allowed to voice discriminatory opinions?
On November 2013, a TV anchor from El Salvador, Daniel Rucks, posted on his personal blog an opinion article titled “A visit into Fabián and Tulio’s house”. He expressed his opinion about how a homosexual couple’s home life could be. In teh article he expressed prejudices about sexual diversity and women. He also used language that could be considered offensive for homosexuals.
This article opened a debate, especially in social media, between those who defended the freedom of speech of the anchor and those who consider his opinions to be discriminatory and inappropriate coming from a public figure. El Salvador (2014).
