Recently, WhatsApp has gained a negative reputation due to its association with scammers in YouTube comments and with Facebook. Despite this, it remains the most popular messaging platform in the world, with approximately 2 billion monthly active users. Although WhatsApp maintains an extremely large user base, two people who have turned against it, and especially Facebook, are its founders, Jan Koum and Brian Acton. Jan and Brian believe Facebook is invading user privacy and prioritizing profit over user experience. This is why they both left WhatsApp and are strong advocates for people to stop using WhatsApp and other Facebook apps. Brian even founded a non-profit messaging app called Signal, which seeks to collect as little data as possible. So far, this app already has 40 million users, and it's possible it will eventually surpass WhatsApp. This video explains the story of WhatsApp's founders and why they finally took on Facebook.
