On a real 909, the open and closed hi-hat choke each other because they share the same voice. That’s a big part of why 909 grooves feel so natural and tight.
If you’re just using one-shot samples in your DAW, this behavior usually doesn’t happen automatically - which can make your hats sound different compared to the real machine.
