Hand-drawn fonts are way more interesting when double letters are different. We expect a handwriting font to have some imperfections and too many repetitions of letter shapes can look odd.

So, when making your own hand-drawn font, adding Contextual alternates is a great way to make text look more natural and hand-drawn. Adding alternative characters makes your font more dynamic and less repetitive.

In this video, I show you how to make segments in the info panel and add the coding for the contextual alternative OpenType feature in glyphs 3.

Glyphs 3 is a professional font design software, it's packed with lots of great features to help you design a typeface quickly. I use it to create all my commercial fonts.
