Hurricane Milton Almost Got Us! Real-time Update
Hurricane season has picked up steam here in Florida. Hurricane Milton became pretty big news for us last week. We were anchored in Melbourne, Florida when the Meterologists, National Hurricane Center, and pretty much every other expert started informing the public that Milton was going to be a beast of a storm. We were not in a safe location to ride it out and track wise we were potentially right in its path. We needed to move. The question was whether we should go north or south. In the end we chose to go South to Vero Beach. We were able to get a mooring ball at the Vero Beach City Marina. Once settle it was time to prep the boat. We know we need to reduce our windage so we took down our headsail and our cockpit enclosure. Everything on deck got tied down extra. Our brand new solar panels are extra important to us so they got special attention and oh so many ropes! We rode out the storm on the boat. All indicators were saying that the storms strength would be significantly less once it crossed Florida, that was in fact the case. The scariest part of it all ended up being the tornadoes in the area, one of which was only about a block from the marina.
We are so grateful to say that we are safe, the boat is safe and the other boats here are also safe with minimal damage.
