Alctron MP73a v Golden Age Project Pre-73 on snare drum
Another preamp shootout, this time I'm testing them on my snare.
Some things to note:
1) I couldn't get the screen recording software to behave so I abandoned the idea. Look at the left side (the mixer) to see what's going on - full mix, snare solo'd, snare solo'd with NO FX.
2) I'm running a Wilkinson debleeder plugin, which obviously is affecting the decay/release, which is really noticeable on the snare solo''d track.
3) I'm running an EQ through my console, just a boosted low shelf and a cut at around 800hz.
4) Both preamps were gain and output matched, for consistency (i.e. I hit the snare through both units and matched the gains till the wave forms looked the same (same transformer vibe), then tweaked the output so they were the same level in Pro Tools).
5) My playing was LOOSE, I was just having a bit of fun shredding :D And I also didn't time align anything in Pro Tools, or properly gate the toms, since the real purpose here was to show the difference with the preamps on the snare.
