In today's video, The Bearded Gentleman shows you how to build a large corner desk with 16 square feet of desk space for under $100 using materials from a local hardware store!
96" x 48" x 3/4" Melamine Board = $36
Douglas Fir 12' x 4" x 4"' = $13
Any variety 8' x 2" x 4" = $3
22 x L brackets as shown = $17
3 x Pack of 100 #6 x 3/4" screws = $12
3 x construction tie plates as shown = $3
25' roll of melamine edging = $5
TOTAL FOR ABOVE = $90
Tools needed:
Quality drill with Philips bit and small drill bits to drill pilot holes for the screws. Makes installing the screws MUCH easier, trust me!
Have melamine board cut to 60" x 24" and 36" x 24" segments. You will have enough board to build TWO desks. Simply double the 4x4, brackets, tie plates, and get more screws to be able to build TWO desks for under $130 TOTAL!!
Have the 4x4 and 2x4 cut into 28" segments. You will get five main desk legs and three 2x4 "support" legs out of each piece. You only need one "support" leg for each desk.
Install L brackets on each side of 4x4. Then mount them on the underside of the desk top in the five main corners of the desk. Install support leg so that it straddles where the two desk top pieces meet. Install tie plates so that they also straddle where the desk top pieces meet. Set up desk where you want it and attach the two desk pieces using support leg and tie plates. Install edging tape per instructions to complete finished look.
That's it!!
