The Valli Kummi Attam tells the story of the Tamil deity Valli from her birthright to her marriage with Lord Murugan. Displays of this ancient dance form are rare nowadays but the village of Thondamuthur in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu recently witnessed the grand staging of the traditional Valli Kummi Attam. This valli kummi arangetram dance performed by kandavelan valli kummi team with group of girls, boys and kids.
Valli Kummi is a folk dance, popular in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in India, danced mostly by South Indian women in circle. Dancing may be different. In some places, it is very simple, with rhythmic clapping or beating of the drums. Kummi often accompany by songs, called "Kummi songs" It is often danced during festivals.
