Sheperds or Bakarwals – Ethnic Group of Jammu and Kashmir
Bakarwal are Nomads of Kashmir Region and the community is listed as Scheduled Tribes along with Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir in 1991.
As a nomadic tribe they spread over a large part starting from Pir Panjal Range to Hindukush to Ladakh
The main occupation is herding of goats, sheeps and buffaloes. Keep on moving from one place to another and therefore have very rare permanent settlements.
