After (literally) years, I’ve finally installed a new display into one of my Akai S1000 samplers. It’s so much fun to work with this thing, especially when you actually see what you’re doing without having your squinted eyes glued to the screen.

I should be focusing on cleaning up and reorganizing the studio and getting some rest, to be ready for future projects, BUT I couldn’t help but doing a quick compositional sketch with the new screen in the Akai. Samples were recorded earlier today, directly into the S1000 (with sample rate lowered to 22,05 kHz / bandwidth of 10 kHz for extra lo-fi bliss), sourced from the Waldorf Microwave 1, Roland JV-2080 and E-mu Morpheus.

I’ve recorded video footage of the display replacement process. Gotta check if it is good enough - might do a quick tutorial video on this within the next few weeks.
I did also replace the floppy drive of my main unit with a Lotharek HxC Floppy Disk / SD Card emulator. But after half an hour I switched back to the original floppy drive. An external SCSI to SD solution might be better suited to my taste, because I can use it in parallel with a real floppy drive.
