Exploring Dubai's surroundings! Love Lake & Flamingo Lake
Many people associate Dubai with a cutting-edge, youthful metropolis of skyscrapers, fast cars, shopping malls, and countless people.
And that's not entirely wrong; after all, we're all familiar with it from the media or the internet. But what's it like just outside the city? Is it all desert, or is there perhaps a bit more to it?
I've now begun exploring precisely this "bit more," and let me tell you, there's a lot!
Let's start with Love Lake, for example. Located in the Al Qudra desert, it's just under an hour's drive from Dubai. There you'll find over 100 species of animals, flowers, and plants.
The lake is an artificial one, shaped like two intertwined hearts, which are best appreciated from the air, but that doesn't really matter when you're there in person.
Long walks or picnics on the lake's shore are what draw locals and tourists alike. Barbecuing is also permitted. Especially at sunset, the lake offers a picturesque setting that simply invites you to relax and unwind, far removed from the hustle and bustle of Dubai.
The paths are also perfect for jogging, and there's a long cycle path for all outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Parking is plentiful.
The drive to the lake leads along sandy, winding paths, past flora and fauna, small pools, and numerous bird species.
If you don't have a car, you can also use public transport. Take bus line 67 to Nakheel Stables. From there, you'll need to take a taxi to the lake, which is about 20 minutes away.
You'll also find Flamingo Lake in the area; like Love Lake, it belongs to the Al Qudra Lakes.
If you don't want to enjoy your own packed lunch at the lake, you'll also find a five-star desert resort nearby. Bab Al Shams, modeled after an Arabian fort, offers delicious Arabian dishes to suit every taste.
All in all, the Al Qudra Lakes are definitely worth a visit and a perfect getaway for the winter months. They might even be a beautiful, romantic spot for a declaration of love or a proposal...
