In this video I am showing how to run a program that takes advantage of a bug in the Linux kernel, which allows the user running it to get a root shell. The exploit is not a remote one, so the file has to be copied onto the attacked system and then run as a user. The bug was fixed in the last Centos 5 kernel, so it can only be run on a machine that has not been fully patched. I ended up having to work out how to use this exploit, because I ended up looking after an old Centos 5 server for a client, but they did not have a record of what the root password was. They wanted me to transfer some files off it, but this was going to take for ever without the root password, so I decided to look for something that could get me a root shell on it. I managed to find the Github page that had the links to the exploits on it and then ended up using the one that I am showing in this video.
