The architectural concept of the new skyscraper was presented at the interdepartmental council on the implementation of the cooperation agreement between St. Petersburg and Gazprom. This was reported on May 25 by the press service of the company.
“The tower's height of 703 meters is very, very symbolic. This is a tribute to history - the year of the founding of a great city with a rich culture, history, and its own unique character, ”said the head of the company Alexey Miller.
It is planned that the building will complement the architectural ensemble and become a world leader in technological innovation and green building.
Tony Kettle, the project's architect, who previously led the team of authors of the architectural concept of the Lakhta Center, explained that the building is "the creation of a vertical urban environment in the form of a spiral tower." According to him, the architectural solution embodies an idea inspired by energy in all its forms: from spiral energy waves to spirals of wave energy in water.
The building will be the second highest in the world and the "champion" in the height of the observation deck, which will be located 530 meters from the ground.
The project is planned to be implemented outside of Gazprom's investment program, on the basis of project financing. The task will be entrusted to a company not affiliated with Gazprom. A roadmap has already been developed. The construction site will be provided by Gazprom
