Things I Never Thought About Before A Deaf Child: Part 2,643
Haircuts! So much talking happens during haircuts, and they can also be scary for little ones the first few times. I remember panicking the first time we had to take Coop’s cochlear implants off (they get in the way, especially with a headband) and try to keep him still and calm during a haircut.
I was so glad I had ASL then, and I’m even more glad now that Cooper is so much more active. He takes in so much ASL even if he prefers to respond verbally, and I know that’s true of many deaf children who use both spoken and sign language.
