Are aquariums and terrariums problematic?
This is a question that is rarely asked or even discussed in this field.
That's why I wanted to know if this practice, better known as a passion, could be problematic. It's important to put into context that I myself am passionate about this world of recreating microhabitats, observing living development, understanding, deducing, and being fascinated by species that are complicated to observe in the wild.
BUT, in this video, I explain certain arguments or facts that show that aquariums and terrariums have an impact on biodiversity and promote the production of materials (substrates, decor, equipment, etc.) as well as animal production: "intensive" breeding. I'm using the term too much, but there are people who breed species for the sole purpose of making money, sometimes within the rules and with respect for animal welfare, sometimes neither.
But also the entire portion taken from the wild (habitat destruction, disease vectors, unsuitable for captivity).
IN SHORT, I suspect this video may spark debate; it's in no way comprehensive and is only intended to show people the reality of the situation and to raise awareness of the impacts of our decisions.
I did, however, rely on scientific research, reports, blogs, associations, environmental companies, etc.
I'm completely open to comments to share your thoughts or debates!!
