In 1986, the Soviet nuclear submarine K-219 surfaced in the Atlantic Ocean due to an accident. Following a powerful explosion in one of the missile silos, toxic smoke filled the submarine's compartments, and the nuclear reactor went out of control. The accident could not only have killed the entire crew but also led to a radiation disaster.
