It’s a huge mistake to assume value is based on how long something takes.
This isn’t always the case.
For example, new teammates always take longer to get things done. Sometimes by an order of magnitude (hours versus minutes).
Partly due to a new environment, and partly due to experience.
By contrast, you’re able to get that task done quickly.
But it’s the same task. Is the value any different simply because of the amount of time it took to get it done?
Picasso’s napkin story explains the value of experience and the difference between inputs and outputs.
Non-linear work demands a different lens for judging value. Not by input (time), but merit.
How much value does the product of the work command from the market?
That’s the question to ask.
