Test: Re-encoding 4K Video using FFmpeg on ThinkPad P50
I'm curious about the ThinkPad P50's performance in re-encoding 4K video.
The test involved re-encoding a 10 minutes 4K portrait video to landscape format using FFmpeg's transpose function. To conduct the test, I ran it twice: once solely relying on the CPU, and again utilizing #NVIDIA Quadro M1000M.
Test results:
Using CPU Only: 40 minutes 45 seconds
Using NVIDIA GPU: 7 minutes 32 seconds
The testing was carried out on my ThinkPad P50 laptop, equipped with an Intel Core i7-6820HQ processor and 8GB of RAM.
0:19: Initial system processes.
1:58: CPU test.
3:20: NVIDIA test.
Note that test was done in parallel with ffmpeg x11grab to record the screen.
