Trying to record gameplay in 4K with OBS but the quality isn’t what you expected? If your OBS recordings look soft or pixelated, it’s likely because of incorrect resolution settings. Today I'll show you how to record true 4K video.
1. Best Settings in OBS to Record 4K videos
To record real 4K in OBS, the most important thing is to set the canvas and output resolution to 3840x2160. Make sure your monitor supports 4K. And it is recommended to set the FPS to 60.
Then, to get better recording effects in OBS, more settings are needed.
Go to the output tab. You need to change the output mode from simple to advanced.
Head to Recording tab. Choose a folder with enough space to store your recordings. For the recording format, we usually choose MKV, which is more stable and less prone to corruption than MP4. For the video encoder, I use NVIDIA H.264. If you have an older system, just choose "x264". This is very CPU-intensive.
For the audio encoder, you can select "FFmpeg AAC." Then, tap "audio" on the left. For the sample rate, set it to 48 KHZ. Choose Stereo for the channels. They are standard for high-quality audio. Make sure you have the desktop audio, like headphones or speakers.
2. Screen Record in 4K with EaseUS RecExperts
Meet EaseUS RecExperts: A lightweight tool designed for one-click 4K recording.
Launch EaseUS RecExperts.
You just need to select a recording mode.
Open the screen you want to record.
Choose the recording area size as you like.
Set the frame rate for 4k video: 60 or higher. Here, you can also personalize more screen recording settings.
Hit the "REC" button to begin.
If you want to pause or stop the recording, just hit the F10 or F9 hotkeys.
3. Tips for Recording 4K videos
First, to avoid a single file being too large, use segmented recording.
Second, when recording in 4K, give priority to ensuring smoothness (such as 30/60 fps).
Third, choose a low-compression format.
Fourth, optimize the recording.
