XDefiant is a game that seems like it's never coming out: An Analysis on a Game Doomed from the Start. While at first little more than an interesting failure case study, this game’s history quickly snowballed into a catastrophic combination of internal and external shortcomings. In addition to the usual problems of developmental delays and game-breaking bugs, our style of a documentary video argues for the deeper problem: a volatile workplace of exclusion and poor management that turned this game into the example of dysfunction. Drawing the comparisons between the “XDefiant”’s case and that of a healthy and successful counterpart, we emphasize the powerful miss and many lessons that developers should learn.
