⚠️We went into the "Spit" and we'll show you! 👉 Half a hundred mountaineers have died on this dangerous section. The Aneto Glacier is another place with a high number of rescues‼️

1️⃣Planning a safe climb up Monte Perdido
The presence of snow requires specific equipment (ice axe and crampons) and knowing how to use it. Especially when the "Spit" section is covered in snow, a fall there can be fatal.

As soon as the snow clears from the route, the ascent becomes safer, although we must not forget that we are always in high mountain terrain.
There are some steep sections on both the north and south faces where you have to use your hands. They are not very long sections, but people with vertigo may experience panic attacks and have problems.

As always, we must notify someone of our route and expected return time, check the weather forecast for the day we plan to climb, and have an alternative plan in case we need to shorten the activity for any reason.

2️⃣Equipping ourselves for climbing Monte Perdido
Our backpack for Monte Perdido should include everything we usually need for high-mountain activities: good mountaineering boots, warm clothing, a rain jacket, a hat and gloves (even in summer, thin gloves can be useful), a cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, a first-aid kit with a thermal blanket, a phone, a map, and a compass. But without a doubt, if there is snow on the route, an ice axe and crampons are essential. Don't be misled: even if some people tell you they have climbed Monte Perdido in the snow without this equipment, be aware that they are risking their safety—don't do it too!

If you've never used this technical equipment before, or if you have doubts about whether you have enough experience to safely tackle the magnitude of this climb, consider doing it with a mountain guide. Most accidents on Monte Perdido are related to snow or exhaustion when people with insufficient experience attempt this ascent.

3️⃣ Acting prudently during the ascent
The third golden rule for climbing Monte Perdido safely and without incident is to never let your guard down. Once you've successfully completed the previous two steps, if you relax during the climb or don't make the right decisions, the day can become complicated. The mountain will always be there, and we can return any day, so it's not worth persisting in what isn't reasonable. If the group isn't progressing well, the schedule is slower than planned, or the weather is changing, it's better to turn back and be able to tell the tale!
