Under Unkind Skies – Episode 1. Miniseries
The main characters are four best friends: Zakhar, Rasimka, Yashka, and Vilen. They met in an orphanage but ended up there for different reasons.
The boys grew up and chose their professions. Rasimka was the first to find love. Zakhar and Yashka competed for the attention of the striking beauty Natalya. She reciprocated Zakhar's feelings. Vilen was in love with his profession as a veterinarian.
The announcement of the Great Patriotic War ruined all the young men's future plans. Zakhar and Rasimka went to the front together. Vilen joined the military hospital as a doctor. Yashka continued to serve in the NKVD and remained behind the lines. He continued to try to win the attention of Natalya, Zakhar's wife. Vilen disobeyed orders and halted the convoy to help a woman in labor and save her children. Because of his decision, his comrades were killed under German fire. Yashka learned that his brother had deserted. Zakhar and Rasimka are caught in an airstrike.
