Hey Everyone!
My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today I am talking about pet insurance. Pet insurance is very important in my opinion. Veterinary care has become more expensive over the years.
It has become very expensive in the area of emergency care and specialist care.
In this video I share about a case I had this week where a pet parent could not pay the ten thousand dollars needed up front for her dog to have back surgery. The dog was down and could not walk. The dog had intervertebral disc disease. This is a serious problem where the spinal cord is damaged and the dog can not walk. This is really scary for the dog and pet parent.
This pet parent had pet insurance, but they were not able to cover the upfront cost of the surgery. That was was a whopping 10 thousand dollars!! I get it, it is back surgery and they need a specialist. The price is not shocking, but the failure of the pet insurance industry to make the payment upfront is sad and frustrating.
If the pet parent is not able to pay for upfront medical bills until they are reimbursed, is pet insurance even a good idea anymore? Pet insurance is for those big bills a pet parent can not afford.
I feel like all pet insurance companies need to get to a place where they are paying up front, so pet parents can actually use their pet insurance.
