I released this single and music video in the weeks leading up to the 2014 NZ General Election . . . then all hell broke loose.
The NZ Electoral Commission advised radio and TV not to play the song and also advised that in their view the online video was not able to be viewed without myself and Jeremy Jones (who made the video) being named as 'political 3rd Parties' and authorizing the song and it's video as an 'election advertisement' with our names and addresses printed or stated in the 'material'.
Suffice to say I thought this was utter bs, so Jeremy & I challenged this advice in the NZ High Court and won almost a year later.
The Electoral Commission appealed this ruling. Their appeal was dismissed in a Court Of Appeal ruling on20 October 2016.
So enjoy my little poke at our ex-Prime Minister. Obviously I'm not a fan of his politics but at least we still live in a nominally free country.
