SRI LANKA Crossroads with Kriz Harriz - Episode01
Welcome to a scenic adventure on Ceylon's roads less traveled.
We begin this adventure at Colombo's "Fort Station" Railway Station , as we prepare to embark on a scenic trip in Sri Lanka's railroads.
Even though the teardrop-shaped island in the Indian Ocean is small, it has some of the most exciting train rides in the world. You might be bouncing through the suburbs with a fellow commuter sleeping on your shoulder, or you might be weaving in and out of emerald-green tea gardens and thickets of tropical rainforest while eating a curry and rice meal you packed to go. Sometimes, you'll do both of these things on the same trip.
Most steam trains that used to carry tea and spices along these winding rail lines are gone now, but the colorful diesel locos that have replaced them have the same effect on the Sri Lankan landscape as the steam trains did. If you like to travel by train, you might want to book a spot on one of these amazing train trips around Sri Lanka.
Then we continue by exploring Sri Lankan cane furniture. Cane, or Wewal in Sinhala, is a booming business quickly getting the attention of the fashion and design industries. The fact that cane products are good for the environment is another thing that makes them interesting and makes people want to use them. Many Sri Lankans think of Wewaldeniya when they hear the word "cane." This is because Wewaldeniya is a small town that sells only cane goods, like baskets and chairs.
Next, I meet up with a "Aikunthika" snake and monkey trainer who taught me how to play different snake and monkey games. It is very popular with children in Sri Lanka.
After that we continue our journey onwards to Bentota. Bentota is a beautiful small town in the coastal part of rural Sri Lanka. It is in the southwest and along the island's coast, surrounded by greenery, and has famous beaches and many tall coconut palm trees.
Bentota is also known for its beautiful marine life; once you get there, you'll love the vibe. This place is so peaceful and beautiful.
As we continue our journey we head to Sirambiadiya, where African Sri Lankans live. They are the descendants of African mercenaries, musicians, and workers and are a very small ethnic group in Sri Lanka. They were brought to Sri Lanka by Portuguese colonists when the island was under Portuguese rule.
I finally meet up with a Yoga master teaching meditation and yoga on this beautiful tropical island.
