The Maestro Rhythm King is an iconic drum machine. Though it may be primitive by modern standards, it was one of the first drum machines to have individual trigger buttons for its kit sounds. If you've heard any track off of Sly and The Family Stones' "There's a Riot Goin On," then you've heard this in action. At the time, Sly's drummer was getting pretty disillusioned and quit the band, leading Sly to use the Rhythm King as a substitute. He or a session drummer would then often overdub real drums on top, creating unique syncopations and rhythm that pushed and pulled organically. This is one of those instruments where you plug it in and it's immediately THAT sound.
