Erasmus is a set of scholarship programs within the European Union aimed at increasing the mobility of students and researchers within the European space. The Erasmus Foundation bears the name of the great Renaissance thinker Erasmus of Rotterdam - a humanist, philosopher, theologian and teacher.
The Erasmus program is funded by the European Commission, the total amount of the scholarship fund is about 20 billion euros. These funds are distributed among universities, research centers, teachers and students.
The program is primarily aimed at creating partnership agreements between universities in Europe and other regions, so the bulk of the funding is directed specifically to universities. There are Erasmus scholarship programs in almost any university whose activities are recognized as official and effective. Erasmus scholarship programs are strictly defined within the framework of direct contracts between 2-3 educational institutions.
Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus Plus
There are currently two types of Erasmus scholarships in the European Commission's financial programme: Erasmus Mundus and Erasmus Plus. In fact, these programs differ in scope: Erasmus Mundus applies exclusively to the countries of the European Union, while Emasmus Plus is a global program and opens up the opportunity to study in Europe for students from all countries.
The Erasmus program allows foreign students and researchers to visit a university in another country and study there for 3 to 12 months. The language of instruction depends on the program: it is usually either English or the local language. All completed courses and seminars are counted in official documents according to the European system of academic credits ECTS.
Thus, training takes place alternately at two or three universities, and at the end of the course, the student receives a diploma from several educational institutions at once.
How to get an Erasmus Scholarship
Since Erasmus is primarily an inter-university program, the chance of getting one depends on the institute's international connections.
