A Plague Tale: Innocence is a dark action-adventure game set in medieval Paris in 1349. The main characters are brother and sister Hugo and Amicia, who are hiding from the Inquisition. They must travel through France, torn apart by war and plague, meet other orphans, and avoid the Inquisitors and the hordes of plague rats roaming the country at all costs.
The game's main feature is the constant lack of light, which plays a major role in its success. Amicia is the protagonist, and Hugo can carry out various tasks for her. Players must choose whether to travel during the day or at night, as different enemies are active at different times. To progress through the locations, they will need to pit the rats and the Inquisition against each other, hide, and try to survive.
