So there is actually a way to play the latest version of Fortnite using a mac. Nvidia Geforce Now, a online video game streaming service. The benefit of using this is you don't have to download or install the game, but you only get an hour per session and you have to wait to a queue unless you pay for a subscription. This video shows how to play Fortnite with Nvidia Geforce Now on a mac and shows examples of Battle Royale, Save the World and Creative Mode.
